Microfibre in healthcare

In healthcare, the hygiene protocol determines the working method. A suitable cloth or mop supports that method but does not replace procedures for risk zones, cleaning, any required disinfection and handling used textiles.

Select for the risk zone

Identify rooms and contact surfaces with the person responsible for hygiene. Define the work sequence, textile changes, colour coding and processing. A method used in an office is not automatically appropriate in a treatment room.

Choose reusable, short-use or single-use products for this process and the available logistics. A short service life does not mean that a product disinfects or is sterile.

Include preparation and processing in the plan

Check how clean textiles are prepared, taken to the workplace and removed after use. Separate clean and used flows. Match textile quantities to the agreed change points so stock shortages do not undermine the method.

Use an organisation-approved, validated care process for reusable textiles. A maximum temperature on a product sheet alone does not establish that a particular wash programme meets local hygiene requirements.

Check the combination in practice

Have staff use the selected cloth, mop, frame and handle together. Check reach, handling and textile changes. Include only technically verified combinations in the standard method.

Record item codes and source versions so that a different configuration supplied on reorder does not silently change the process. Discuss changes with the person responsible for hygiene.
