What is microfibre?

Microfibre is not a single type of cloth. Fibre composition, construction and finishing together affect how a textile collects dirt, holds moisture and moves over a surface. A good choice therefore starts with the application.

Fibre and textile work together

Microfibre products can contain different proportions of polyester and polyamide. A textile made from one fibre material can also have a microfibre construction. Read the composition on the particular product sheet; a brand name does not identify every configuration’s materials.

A smooth nonwoven cloth feels different from a knitted or woven cloth. These differences serve a purpose, including moisture uptake, surface contact and the required finish.

Contact, movement and moisture

During wiping, the textile and movement work together to loosen and collect dirt. Excess moisture, a saturated cloth or an unsuitable construction can prevent the required result. Applying more pressure is not automatically the answer.

Choose a suitable cloth or mop, prepare it according to its protocol and work with clean contact areas. If the result is disappointing, review the surface, soil and method first.

Start with the product group

Use the microfibre selector to distinguish surface cleaning from floor cleaning first, then compare configurations. A matching colour or the word microfibre does not establish interchangeability between cloths, mops or systems.
